The Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia finally issued a circular letter prohibiting judges from granting requests for the registration of interfaith marriages. This letter is to respond to the polemic on the determination of judges in breaking up interfaith marriages in various regions. Supreme Court Circular Letter (SEMA) Number 2 of 2023 concerning Guidelines for Judges in Trialing Cases for Requests for Registration of Inter-Religious Marriages of Different Religions and Beliefs. The SEMA (Supreme Court Circular Letter) was signed by Chief of Supreme Court, Muhammad Syarifuddin.[1]

The following is the contents of the SEMA (Supreme Court Circular Letter) as referred to:[2]

"In order to provide certainty and legal unity in adjudicating applications for the registration of marriages between people of different religions and beliefs, judges must be guided by the following provisions: 

1. A valid marriage is one that is carried out according to the laws of each religion and belief, in accordance with Article 2 paragraph 1 and Article 8 letter f of Law Number 1 of 1974 concerning Marriage.

2. The court did not grant the application for the registration of marriages between people of different religions and beliefs."

Yohanes Suryono (51), a shaman who multiplied money and killed two victims, was arrested by Satreskrim Polres Garut. Yohanes was arrested by the Police for carrying out a money-making ritual at Santolo Beach, Cikelet District, Garut Regency, West Java. Garut Police Chief AKBP Wirdhanto Hadicaksono said the perpetrator claimed to be a shaman who had the expertise to bring supernatural money to his victims. "This perpetrator carried out a ritual practice of doubling money, the suspect YS alias Abah U is a resident of Banjar," he said when exposing the case at the Garut Police Headquarters, Friday (24/12/2021).[1]

Wirdhanto said that in carrying out this action, the suspect was unable to bring what he promised to his victim. The victim was then disappointed and then went to the suspect's house and cursed the suspect's child with words that hurt him. "The three victims came to the house of the suspect's family and scolded their children and said the suspect was just pretending or a liar," he said.[2]

The suspect then felt hurt when he heard that his son was being scolded by the victim and then invited the victim to carry out the ritual on the south coast of Garut Regency. "Then finally on December 15 in Santolo South Garut, the suspect performed a ritual with three of his victims," ​​said Wirdhanto. In this ritual, the suspect ordered the victim to eat 1.5 kg of goat meat that had been provided. It turned out that the goat meat had been poisoned by the suspect using rat poison, causing two patients to die and one critical.[3]

"It happened at 9.30 pm, the three victims consumed the meat which apparently had previously been mixed with tenik rat poison,". This case of money multiplier shaman which leading to murder is not the first time has happened in Indonesia. One of the money multiplier shaman cases that has shocked the public is 'Taat Pribadi' alias Dimas Kanjeng. Dimas Kanjeng was arrested on September 22, 2016. Dimas Kanjeng's cover was exposed after he ordered people to kill two of his followers, Ismail Hidayah and Abdul Gani. The reason was because Ismail was considered to have harmed the Dimas Kanjeng Taat Pribadi Padepokan (a place for learning and training, as well as a residence for warriors in the world of martial arts), namely exposing the hermitage's disgrace.[1]

On 2 February 2015, Ismail was finally killed on Paiton Street, Probolinggo. After that, Ismail's body was buried in Tegalsono Village, Probolinggo, in a burial pit that had been prepared beforehand. As it turned out, on February 5, 2015, residents found Ismail's body. Slowly, the murder case was revealed. This gang of murders ordered by Dimas Kanjeng caused a commotion and exposed the cover of Padepokan Dimas Kanjeng. Apart from Ismail, Dimas Kanjeng also killed Abdul Gani. He is the Chairman of the Padepokan Dimas Kanjeng Foundation. Abdul Gani's body was found on April 14 2016 in the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir, Wonogiri, Central Java. The day before, he was killed in Probolinggo.[2]

It took about 5 months for the Police to uncover. The perpetrators admitted that they dumped Abdul Gani's body in Wonogiri because the victim Ismal Hidayat, who was killed and buried in Probolinggo, was found out. Abdul Gani was killed for tarnishing the good name of the Dimas Kanjeng hermitage. "The victim often bad-mouthed the leader of Dimas Kanjeng outside the hermitage by saying that there were many people who obeyed the person, but they were not given it to the person who lent the money to double it. If the money was there, why not just give it? That's what the victim said to other people," explained the Head of Sub-Directorate for Jatanras Diteskrimum Polda Jatim at that time, AKBP Taufik Herdiansyah. The nine perpetrators of the murder were ordered by Dimas Kanjeng. They are members of the Protection Team who become Dimas Kanjeng's trusted people. They got paid IDR 320 million. Each perpetrator received IDR 30-40 million.[3]

The arrest of Dimas Kanjeng was recorded to have occurred during the era of the East Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Anton Setiadji. In his confession, Anton admitted that it was indeed difficult to catch Dimas Kanjeng. This is because the risk of clashing with his followers and causing casualties is very likely to occur. To catch Dimas Kanjeng, Anton said he had launched a 'silent operation'. This operation has even been prepared in detail for two months before the execution. The Figure of Abah Yanto

Abah Yanto (initial MY) apparently performed a money doubling ritual in Ngabetan Village, Cerme, Gresik. Meanwhile, the house of the Police visited was where he lived. Edo added that every day, Abah Yanto used a wheelchair because he had a stroke. Every morning, he said, the shaman was basking in the hot sun. Its existence is said to have made residents uneasy. This is because patients who come and go do not know the time, including early in the morning. Even though he had been warned, Abah Yanto remained silent. He was also, called by Edo, did not submit population data and was not active in citizen activities.[2]

Abah Yanto Known as a Money Multiplier Shaman

Abah Yanto is known as a shaman who can multiply money with 'blood rituals'. He claimed to have followers in several cities in East Java. Instead of multiple the money, he actually deceived his victims who hoped that their money would be multiplied. So, what kind of blood ritual was performed by Abah Yanto to double the money?[3]

When arresting Abah Yanto at his rented house, on Tuesday (10/1/2023) early morning, the Police found dozens of bags of blood. It is known, there were around 34 bags of human blood measuring 200 cc and 250 cc which were confiscated. Not only that, the Police also found fake toy money that was used by Abah Yanto to return the victim's money. Later, a number of daggers were also found that were used by the shaman in performing rituals. Based on the interim investigation, Abah Yanto admitted to the Police that the blood was used as an offering for 'jenglot' (miniature humans as amulets in shamanic rituals). This statement was conveyed by Head of the Gresik Police, Lutfi Hadi, at the Gresik Police Headquarters, Wednesday (11/1/2023).[4]

Abah Yanto Involved in Fraud and Embezzlement of Funds. In fact, MY was arrested on suspicion of fraud and embezzlement. This action was only revealed after one of the victims reported it to the Police. The victim had handed over IDR 565 million in two months. Abah Yanto promised to double the money to IDR. 3.9 billion in September 2022. However, he refused and only returned the victim's money of IDR. 170 million. The Central Java Regional Police revealed a number of new facts related to the serial murder victim of a money-making shaman in Banjarnegara. One of them is Paryanto's last message, a victim from Sukabumi, to his son. The Central Java Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Ahmad Luthfi said Pariyanto, the victim of the serial murder of a money-making shaman in Banjarnegara, Slamet Tohari, had sent messages via the WhatsApp application to his son before being killed. In the message, Pariyanto asked his family to pick him up at Tohari's house, if he was caught not returning home.[1]

"Initially the disclosure of this case was a report by Gridas, the son of the first victim, Pariyanto. Reported that his father was missing, then reported in Banjarnegara followed up by an examination of the Banjarnegara Criminal Investigation Office that it was true that Tohari, who was a shaman, admitted that at that time he had killed Pariyanto's brother, " said Inspector General of Police Ahmad Luthfi, Wednesday (5/4/2023). "So on Pariyanto's cellphone, WA was found before being killed, the sound of which read at Mr. Slamet Tohari's house. He said if there was anything, on Sunday Father did not return, please look for me with the authorities at Mr. Slamet Tohari's house. This is the entrance to uncover the murder that was committed brother Tohari," added Ahmad Luthfi.[2]

According to the Kapolda (Regional Police Chief), the message was also the main starting point for the investigation into the serial killings. After receiving the evidence, the Police interrogated Tohari, who initially admitted to having committed the murders 5 times. Then, on Monday (3/4/2023) the Police interrogated Slamet Tohari. At that time he admitted to having killed 5 people, whose crime scenes were the same, on Jalan Setapak in Gulem Hamlet, Banjarnegara. "Admitted 5, after dismantling we found 9 bodies. Finally we dismantled again, there were 2 to 12," said Ahmad Luthfi. However, when a search was carried out at the TKP (Crime scene) in Balun village, Wanayasa District, Banjarnegara, 10 bodies were found, and then 2 victims, bringing the total to 12 victims.[3]

From the results of the research by the Central Java Police team it was also known that the age range of the victims ranged from 25 to 50 years. The cause of death was non-violent suffocation from poison, with an estimated time of death of six to 24 months. Knowing The Sengkon & Karta Case

What happened to Sengkon and Karta is one of the dark history of the world of Indonesian justice. Sengkon and Karta are often written by observers when talking about law enforcement in Indonesia. Once upon a time, a robbery and murder befell the married couple Sulaiman-Siti Haya in Bojongsari Village, Bekasi, in 1974. Moments later, the police arrested Sengkon and Karta, and named them both suspects. Sengkon and Karta are farmers from Bojongsari, Bekasi, West Java. The two were accused of robbing and killing the Sulaiman-Siti Haya couple. Not feeling guilty, Sengkon and Karta initially refused to sign the minutes of the investigation. But because they could not stand the police's torture, the two of them then gave up. Judge Djurnetty Soetrisno believed the police story more than the two defendants' denials. So in October 1977, Sengkon was sentenced to 12 years in prison, and Karta to 7 years. The decision was upheld by the West Java High Court.[1]

Sengkon and Karta experienced extraordinary suffering. According to the confession, they were beaten by the authorities. And even more tormented because Sengkon was stricken with tuberculosis (TBC) in Cipinang prison. After several years in prison they meet a prison inmate named "Genul", Sengkon's nephew, who was previously jailed for theft. It was here that Genul revealed the secret that he was actually the killer of Sulaiman and Siti. Finally, in October 1980, Gunel was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Even so, this does not necessarily make them free. Because previously they had not filed an appeal, so the verdict was declared to have permanent legal force.[2]

The Sengkon and Karta cases shocked Indonesia at that time. Albert Hasibuan, a House Representative member and a lawyer, was touched and tried to free Sengkon and Karta who were determined to fight for their fate. Finally, in January 1981, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (MA) Oemar Seno Adji ordered that both of them be released through the judicial review route. The big lesson from the Sengkon and Karta cases, because the Supreme Court revived the Judicial Review institution (before the Sengkon and Karta incident was not recognized in the legal system in Indonesia) against court decisions that had permanent force (berziening), January 1981 the head of the Supreme Court Oemar Seno Adji ordered the two men it's released.[3]

Being out of jail didn't make their lot any better. Karta must face a harsh reality: his family is in a mess somewhere. And their house and land covering an area of ​​6,000 square meters in Cakung Payangan Village, Bekasi, have collapsed to finance their case. While Sengkon has to be hospitalized because his tuberculosis (TBC) is getting worse, the land he has relied on to support his family has also been sold out. The land was sold by his wife to support his children and support himself while being processed at the Police and court.[4]

Even though he only bears the burden of a wife and three children, it is impossible for Sengkon to continue his work as a farmer, because the tuberculosis (TBC) disease continues to undermine and there are too many scars on his body from the torture he has suffered. Sengkon and Karta through their lawyers filed a lawsuit against the Bekasi District Court demanding compensation of IDR. 100 million, but were refused. Likewise at Higher Court, his demands were rejected. Cassation to the Supreme Court, but too late. The Supreme Court did not examine the lawsuit file on the grounds that it was late in submitting it. According to the criminal procedural law, the files should have been received on October 25, 1983, but the files were only received on October 26, 1983. According to the lawyers, the delay was due to the late Karta's son taking care of a poverty certificate which needed to be attached to request fee waiver of court fees. Neither did he get justice on earth. The case of the murder of a Bogor Vocational High School student, Andriana Yubelia Noven Cahya (18), in an alley in Baranangsiang, Bogor City, West Java, on January 7 2019 is still a mystery. Noven was found dead covered in blood in a quiet alley in the Baranangsiang area, Bogor City. A knife was seen stuck in Noven's chest. Noven was killed by a man. The murder case was caught on CCTV around the scene. January 7, 2019 to be precise. But the perpetrator is still a mystery.[1]

The Bogor City Police have opened an investigation into the Noven murder case again. Bogor City Police Chief Kombes Bismo Teguh Prakoso emphasized that his party is committed to thoroughly investigating the Noven murder case and arresting the perpetrators. Since being appointed as Bogor City Police Chief in early January 2023, Kombes Bismo has formed a special team to reopen the investigation into the Noven murder case. A judge in Florida has ordered a 65-year-old California fugitive held without bond in connection with the death of a woman nearly 40 years ago. Donald Santini was arrested by U.S. marshals in California last month, and extradited to Florida. He had used at least 13 aliases over the years. Santini was the last person seen with 33-year-old Cynthia “Cindy” Ruth Wood. The arrest warrant said a medical examiner determined she had been strangled, and Santini’s fingerprints were found on her body. “You being on the run for almost 40 years is a consciousness of guilt. You knew you were running from something,” Judge Catherine Catlin told Santini during a hearing in Tampa on Thursday. Photos taken in the courtroom showed Santini weeping before the judge denied bond. Wood's stepdaughter, Denise Kozer told the Tampa Bay Times she's hoping to find closure in a case that resulted in “total devastation” for her family.[1]

Back in 1984, Santini was known as Charles Michael Stevens, which was an alias he used to flee a warrant in Texas. At the time of his arrest, he was living under the name Wellman Simmonds in Campo, California, which is in southeastern San Diego County. He served on the local water board. “He has a wife and children in California, and I feel sorry for them because they probably didn’t know, either,” Kozer said. “But they’re all still alive. Our lives were devastated, changed forever.” Kozar told the Times that both Barry Wood and the older son of Cindy Wood had died since the slaying, and her younger half-siblings have suffered from mental health issues since their parents’ deaths. She told the newspaper she’s spent years knowing that the man who destroyed her family has been free. The case has been featured on “America’s Most Wanted” several times.[2]

Wood met with Santini, who had called her with promises of providing information about her husband, Barry Wood, that could possibly help her win custody of their two children, who were 3 and 5, according to previous reports by the Bradenton Herald. Wood also had a son from a previous relationship. Kozar was Barry Wood's daughter from another marriage. Kozar, who was 20 when Wood was killed, said she hopes Santini doesn’t get another chance to escape. “If they need extra evidence, we’re willing to let them exhume the body — whatever it takes to make sure that he doesn’t go anywhere,” Kozer said. Santini’s attorney asked the judge for bail. But prosecutors noted that Santini killed Wood after fleeing a charge in Texas related to a convenience store robbery. August 18, 2022:

07.26: Mr. Yosef calls Yoris and his wife Yoris to inform him of the disheveled condition of the TKP (Crime scene) house.

07.25-7.30 : Mr. Ujang leaves the house at 7.00 to the aqua post and walks to work near the TKP (Crime scene) at 7.10. Yosef visited Pak Ujang while sharpening the machete and told him the condition of the crime scene and asked for help to see the messy condition of the house. Mr. Ujang shouted to Mr. Yosef that he would report to the RT (Neighborhood Association) after he saw blood spilled at the back door.

07.10-7.15 : Witness Mr. N saw witness Mr. Ujang and said hello.

07.30: Mr. Yosef went to the Jalancagak Polsek (Sector Police) and stopped by Danu's house and told him about the messy house at the TKP (Crime scene), and at that time Danu was sleeping and was woken up and then headed for the TKP (Crime scene).

Case Investigation and Release of Perpetrator Sketches

An Australian woman has been pardoned after spending 20 years in prison for the deaths of her four children. The pardon was granted by the New South Wales state authorities after a judicial review found reasonable doubt about the sentence handed down. As reported by Reuters, Monday (5/6/2023), this woman named Kathleen Megan Folbigg was found guilty in 2003, for the murder of her three children and for the involuntary murder of her fourth child. During the trial, Folbigg pleaded not guilty and insisted that his children died of natural causes.[1]

An initial 2019 investigation found evidence to corroborate Folbigg's guilt. But a second inquiry led by former justice Thomas Bathurst revisited the 2002 conviction after new evidence suggested two of Folbigg's children had a genetic mutation that could have caused their deaths. On Monday (5/6) local time, the Attorney General for the state of New South Wales, Michael Daley, pardoned Folbigg after the findings of an investigation by Bathrust found reasonable doubt in any sentencing.[2]

"Today's results are confirmation that our judicial system is capable of delivering justice, and demonstrates that the rule of law is an important foundation of our democratic system," Daley said in announcing his pardon. A Murder Revealed Thanks to a Shark

This is the true story of a murder case that was revealed thanks to a tiger shark. This story happened in Australia in 1935 ago. What's the story like? Sharks are known as the top predators in the ocean. Shark attacks are also a scourge for tourists. Most recently, a Russian foreigner was killed by a shark in Egypt. But did the traveler know that sharks can also reveal a murder case? Collected by detikTravel from several sources, Wednesday (14/6/2023) in 1935, a fisherman in Sydney, Australia managed to catch a tiger shark or Tiger Shark.[1]

The tiger shark was then transported to be displayed in an aquarium in the city of Sydney. Less than a week in the aquarium, the tiger shark looks sick. In front of the visitors, suddenly the shark spews out pieces of a human body, in the form of a left hand and part of an arm with a distinctive tattoo. Of course the scene made the aquarium visitors hysterical. Pieces of human hands floating in the aquarium were also reported to the Sydney Police. They were quick and immediately conducted an investigation.[2]

From the examination of fingerprints, it was found that the victim owned the left hand named James 'Jim' Smith, a former boxer and recidivist who was often in and out of jail. Jim was reported missing since April 7, 1935. From the police's examination, it was found that the severed left hand was not bitten by the tiger shark, but had been cut off on purpose. That was evident from the cut caused by the knife on the severed hand. The police then conducted an intense investigation. As a result, they suspect a successful businessman named Reginald William Lloyd Holmes as the perpetrator of Jim's murder. Holmes is also known as a conman and skilled smuggler who also runs a shipbuilding business.[3]

Jim was last seen drinking and playing cards with Brady at the Cecil hotel in Cronulla, a south Sydney suburb on 7 April 1935, the day he disappeared. Before disappearing, Jim told his wife he was going fishing. Brady himself rented a small cottage on Talombi Street, Cronulla at the time Jim disappeared. The police accuse Brady of killing Jim at this cottage. However, despite a thorough examination, Jim's remains were never found. Brady was finally arrested on May 16, 1935 and charged with Smith's murder. Initially, Holmes denied any relationship with Brady. However, four days later, on May 20, 1935, the businessman went to his boathouse and attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head with a .32 caliber pistol. However, the suicide attempt failed because the bullet actually hit his forehead bone.[4]

Holmes finally agreed to cooperate with the police. He testified that Brady had killed Jim, dismembered his body, stuffed it in the trunk, and then thrown it into the ocean of Gunnamatta Bay.
