Microsoft is again making major layoffs, cutting more than 6,000 employees, or about 3 percent of its global workforce. This is the biggest wave of layoffs since the company laid off 10,000 employees in 2023. The company said the layoffs are to control operating costs while channeling billions of dollars in investment into artificial intelligence (AI) programs.[1]

Since the beginning of this year, Microsoft has indeed started a performance-based employee reduction that has targeted hundreds of employees. This latest wave of layoffs adds to the long list of efficiencies carried out by the giant technology company over the past two years.
