An Indonesian citizen named Jamaludin Taipabu ventured to Singapore to find work. He initially took a speedboat from Batam, jumped into the ocean, and swam to Singapore in September 2024. He then lived there for about a year.[1]
Then, in August 2025, Singaporean authorities arrested Jamal. He was sentenced to six weeks in prison and three strokes of the cane on September 16 of 2025 for entering the country without permission. During the trial, Jamal pleaded guilty to the crime.
