President Prabowo Subianto announced that the government had passed the Domestic Workers Protection Law (PPRT Law) in his remarks at the International Labor Day commemoration held at the Lapangan Silang Monas on Friday (01/05/2026). The Head of State emphasized that the ratification of the regulation was an important milestone in the long struggle for protection for domestic workers in Indonesia. "Today I can report to you that we have passed the Domestic Workers Protection Law. If I'm not mistaken, this is a long-standing struggle, a 22-year struggle. Even during the founding of the republic, there has never been a law protecting domestic workers," said the Head of State. On that occasion, the President emphasized that domestic workers often face uncertain conditions regarding protection, including wages and other basic rights. Therefore, the ratification of this law is an important step to ensure clear and fair legal protection for domestic workers throughout Indonesia.[1]
