Grandpa Mujiran (71) can now breathe free air. At his advanced age, Mujiran experienced languishing in the Kalianda Class IIA Penitentiary. The resident of Wonodadi Village, Tanjung Sari District, South Lampung, is a defendant in a case of alleged embezzlement of rubber latex belonging to PTPN. Mujiran was released on Monday (May 25, 2026) after the judges at the Kalianda District Court granted a suspension of his detention. Officers removed the red prison vest Mujiran had been wearing. The moment was met with emotion and tears from his family. Mujiran was no longer wearing red, but a plain blue t-shirt. One by one, Mujiran hugged his wife and then his grandchildren. He also greeted relatives and those welcoming him to his release.[1]

Grandpa Mujiran Charged with Latex Embezzlement. The case began in February 2026 when Grandpa Mujiran worked as a rubber tapper on a plantation owned by the state-owned company. In the prosecutor's indictment, Grandpa Mujiran was accused of hiding the tapped rubber latex in the plantation bushes for later sale. The rubber latex was planned to be retrieved by his partner, Nur Wahid, on a motorcycle. While Nur Wahid was collecting two sacks of rubber latex in the early hours of the morning, he was caught by PTPN I plantation security officers. Officers then searched the area and discovered eight other sacks of rubber latex hidden in the plantation area. The total was 10 sacks of rubber latex, weighing approximately 550 kilograms. As a result of the incident, PTPN I claimed to have suffered a loss of approximately IDR 8.8 million. However, Grandpa Mujiran only admitted to having two sacks of rubber latex intended for sale.[2]

In addition to Mujiran, the panel of judges also granted a suspended detention for Nur Wahid, the first defendant in the case. The suspension was granted after a peace agreement was reached between the defendants and the management of PTPN I Regional VII Lampung Region. Mujiran and Nur Wahid can temporarily reunite with their families while awaiting the next hearing regarding the restorative justice (MKR) mechanism, scheduled for June 3, 2026.[3] And if you have any legal issue in Indonesia territory, contact us for business inquiry, feel free in 24 hour, we will be glad to assist you.
